last thing i heard was dave's bit about how in order to make it profitable or break even at least, they need to use bands with a certain draw. since there aren't that many of those bands, they have to repeat some. then people complain that they use the same bands.

Hmm...how about some kind of "Ska Is Dead Jr." tour...like 200-400 cap clubs. Have two main bands on the package and a few spots for opening bands to bring more draw. If they can't get three/four big acts for the regular SID, maybe send this out until they do??

the last SID tour was llike that basically. they went from having catch 22 headline to streetlight/vgs headlining and then the toasters. the toasters don't draw nearly as much as those bands. i can't speak for the rest of the country, but the jersey show was much smaller.

like, the first two tours were at the starland ballroom (huge 2500-person hall), while the last was at the stone pony (awesome but small couple-hundred person club)

The lineup was pretty good for the last one:

The Toasters, Mustard Plug, The Planet Smashers, and Westbound Train. They sold out (or came damn near) the Trocadero.

i went to eh stone pony date for the last one with drew and rockstar. and i had a fuckin blast. mostly because it was a lo of firsts. first time i saw westbound train, first(and only so far) time i saw the planet smashers, and first time i saw the toasters. and that will forever be my favorite toasters set ever (the asbury lanes show where tommi was drunk and chatting comin in a close second).

yeah, I had hoped to get something together for fall of 07 but none of the bands I contacted could work it out with their schedule....I'm hoping I can pull it together for fall of '08.

The basic problem is that there aren't many bands right now with any sort of national draw. So many of the older bands aren't really doing extensive touring so that makes it tough too. I thought about scaling it down and putting smaller bands together, but there aren't that many bands that can even draw 100 kids throughout the US....

anyway...I've just started working on things again for next fall....so we'll see what happens....feel free to send a billion emails to your favorite band and tell them they should do it......

I'm still amazed that there are a lot of bands that would rather go out and headline to 200 kids, than to share the bill and play in front of 500...

it'll happen, when it happens is about all I can say now....and thanks for asking.....

You asked a band to do a good tour and they'd rather do their own smaller one? That's strictly rude!
