Pama
isn’t exactly a new band, in fact this is their third
record, but they are just recently being introduced to U.S.
fans. Hailing from the UK, Pama features seasoned musicians
from such notable bands as the Specials, the Loafers and Skanga
as well as a guest appearance from Madness saxophone player
Lee Thompson. Given Pama’s two tone pedigree you can
get a decent idea of what type of music they play, although
they have crafted there own sound which is unique. Two-tone
influenced Ska along with reggae and rock steady sounds are
featured on this album. The vocals are soulful, with straightforward/basic
lyrics, often bordering on hypnotic. If you’re looking
for the anger of the Specials or the humor of Madness this
isn’t the place to find it. Pama goes for a laid back,
very positive vibe. Production and musicianship is polished
and professional as you would expect with a band of this caliber.
They’ve been performing quite regularly in the UK, let’s
just hope they make it over the pond soon so we can check
out their live show first hand.
