PRIMOSONIC RHYTHMS, VOL. 2 | Various Artists
Released 3.06
Rivercidal Records

This compilation CD is a good sampling of some great trad ska, rocksteady, reggae and dub music, mainly drawing from some of California’s best up and coming trad ska acts. Stand out acts include The Aggrolites, Chris Murray, Go Jimmy Go and The Debonaires as well as tracks from long time west coast veterans like Monkey and the Skeletones. Quite honestly I’m not all that familiar with many of the reggae/dub bands on this comp, such as the Dub Street Rockers, Empire All Stars, or the Irie Beats and aren’t really sure if these are studio projects or established acts. But the quality level was up on all the tracks so the entire CD was enjoyable. My only complaint would be that many of these tracks have already been released. But if you are not already familiar with many of these bands and are looking for a good selection of mainly west coast bands that solidly represent genres from the last 40 years of Jamaican music, then I’d definitely check this out.
