REEL BIG FISH | Our Live Album is Better than Your Live Album
Released 8.06
CD Baby

What’s better than a new Reel Big Fish record?  Probably a lot of stuff, but that’s not the point.  To celebrate their newfound independence from the major label circus RBF has decided to release a three disc set of pure awesomeness.  Our Live Album is Better than Your Live Album comes jam-packed with two career-spanning CDs worth of kick ass ska tunes, and a full-length performance DVD. Stand out tracks on this album include, well, almost all of them.  Many of the songs on here actually sound even better than I thought they had on their original recordings.  The band even throws in covers of some hit songs by The Cure (“Boys Don’t Cry”), Lita Ford (“Kiss me Deadly”) and A-Ha (“Take on me”).

Not only are the dudes of RBF completely in their element on stage, but they are hilarious as well.  After every song, and quite often during them as well, the band’s “witty banter” will keep most listeners laughing even as they try to sing along.  The sound quality is also pretty exceptional for being a live album.  Except for a couple alterations that I might have made to the set list -- I wish “Alternative Baby” would have made the cut -- I can find few faults with this album or the accompanying DVD.  Every song rocks and the musicianship is spot-on.  Reel Big Fish is a band that has built an impressive, albeit still underrated, career out of playing energetic third wave ska, and Our Live Album is Better than Your Live Album should sway the skeptics.
